Every person and pregnancy is unique. Generally speaking, pregnancy causes hormonal changes that can lead to an increase in the looseness of joints and ligaments. Additionally, due to the growing baby, there are changes occurring in your body posture and mechanics, altering your center of gravity and affecting your balance and coordination. Increases in fluid retention can also change your pelvic floor, girdle and function. These changes can cause back, pubic, thigh and knee pain as well as an altered awareness of your own body in space.
Exercise during and after pregnancy can prevent or alleviate many of these bodily changes and pains, as well as protect both the pregnant person and the baby.
It’s important to know what forms and level of exercise is healthy for you both pre and post partum.
